A set of the first U.S. commemorative silver half dollars. The Columbian half dollars were struck to both commemorate and raise money for the 1892-1893 Columbian World Exposition held in Chicago, Illinois. Although 5,000,000 coins were struck, over half of them were melted due to low demand and other reasons. Much of the mintage was released into circulation and that is why most of the surviving coins are heavily worn. The two coins offered here are in XF (extremely fine) to AU (almost uncirculated) condition. They will show signs of handling and may have minor flaws, although the details will be sharp as shown in the photos. The coins you receive will be housed in brand new Air-Tite capsules and will be as nice or better than the coins shown in the photos.
